Forgiveness

Forgiveness Heals Everything...

Forgiveness

A few days before my dad passed away in 2022, I had an opportunity to sit with him, and talk. I wanted to "clear the air", so to speak. I asked him to forgive me for everything. For all the big things and little things that accumulate between you and a person that you love.

My dad replied to me, "I can't think of anything that needs to be forgiven". Now, I could come up with a lengthy list off the top of my head. But, I think the point is this. He had already forgiven me for everything. He didn't hold grudges or a list of wrongs. Forgiveness wasn't an occasional act for him, it was how he lived his life. When wronged, he forgave, whether the wrongdoer ever asked for forgiveness or not.

"Dad", I pressed. Even if you cannot remember anything specific, I just need to hear the words, "I forgive you". He readily gave me those words. And I will always cherish this.

This was one of the last times I was ever with my dad here on Earth. I wrote this song that day.
